I am planning to read all 5 books. Dr. P. makes it clear that he is 6'11"; thus, it was not until I was halfway through this book that I realized who was who in the supposedly custom illustrations, as the artist show the vet to be about average height. Same thing in volume 3. Could she not manage to show him as he is (if he is, and I assume that) rather than someone, say, 5'9"? I guess it might be difficult, but surely not in cartoons which show him examining an animal with, presumably, another guy 6'11". Perhaps everyone is very tall there?I am enjoying the narrative but skip lots of the details of his work with cows especially after so many cow adventures. And, frankly, I don't understand most of the gritty details, or just complicated ones, any more than my own vet's explanations. Cats' eyes, for example. They have three eyelids?

This was an entertaining book! I enjoyed it. The writing in a couple of stories was stilted at some points however the stories sort of drew you along anyway.
I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who loves animals. He has wonderful stories of his life as a veterinarian. I also ordered his other book, Don't turn your back in the barn. His laugh out loud experiences was so much fun to read. I wish he would keep writing books like this.
This is the second one of his books I have read and found it very enjoyable, though it does have the occasional sad story. It is still very interesting, informative and entertaining all at the same time.
Lots of fun, but definitely not in the James Herriott league. There's no Siegfried, Tristan, or Mrs. Hall. The life of a new vet who is trying to establish his practice is not easy now and was a lot more difficult when this book took place in a small town in British Columbia, Canada.
I liked it enough to buy his next book. Definitely, worth the time.
The title of this book is what drew me in in the beginning...Dave Perrin's style of writing is what kept me in this book until the end. I love his series of vet books so much that I am thinking of buying them in hard copy (in addition to my ones) so that I can share them with everyone. These books show that Dr. Dave is just a regular man...in a superhero sort of way. I LOVED this book and was sad to see it come to an end!
I throughly enjoyed Dave Parrin’s second book. A really fun read about small town life for a country vet. His many clients are interesting.
I read Dr. Dave's first book and I enjoyed his style. However, this one was even better. I can't imagine how he put up with the lack of sleep and going out at all hours of the night. Large animal vets are heroes.
I can't wait to read his next book.
